• love/hate ii by terius, what can i say, how can i say it.. i feel like the original love/hate had a lot of things going for it. fueled by a petty rivalry with lil wayne. there wasn't even a lane for the kind of r&b he was making, 07 was still wrapped up in kanye samples and a wider field of label rap. aubrey graham was barely out of the womb. iphones just dropped. obama not even in office yet. the convergence of factors that make something a Thing is truly crazy, and sequels are notoriously difficult to manage expectations for. i'll probably keep listening to roman numeral i rather than ii. a fun radio hour(thx tim) by Jam City who shares a similar love for 52nd street. an interview with a long time bud talking about burnout and some signs of an industry/practice hollowing out. many such cases. a two hour freestyley session that took me back to hearing wave twisters for the first time. i was thinking about everything but the girl: missing, waiting for tonight, and lady appeared in my mind's ear, all at once, in that order. spiritual siblings. turns out ebtg released a new album three years ago, and i really like the lead single. video is insane too. my recent musical tastes continue to reside in GMT.

• lacking in dopamine after the world cup ended. here in la the mexican jerseys were (obviously) well represented in comparison to usmnt jerseys. which, whenever i see the acronym, can't help but think of teenage mutants who have citizenship.. and because i'm rooting for the home team, the mexico-england game was the most important (and most exciting) one. i don't have much in the way of fifa memes, but in the same way they got hilarious nba edits set to r&b, i'm wishing for a harry kane fan edit to some e-40 and cousins.

• this pitchfork track review for bobby valentino's slow down is a fun read. the nod to hans zimmer and the last samurai sample is great, and i know it's out of scope, but let's not forget about the hero sample on tell me, or even how both exist in close proximity, last samurai 2003, hero 2004(u.s. theatres). makes me wonder what else tim and/or bob were watching. this scream tour iv segment from bet should complement the article nicely. in an alternate universe, bobby v has a third song to complete the 'commanding women' trilogy: it'll be about a fat ass, he'll sample the last waltz from oldboy, the bridge goes insane, park chan-wook does the music video.

• i finished a huge book a few weeks ago, 2666 by roberto bolano. i forgot how it landed in my recommendations but pretty much rawdogged it - didn't look anything up, didn't know the author, just knew that it was beefy. and in a gluttonous way, i wanted something i could spend hours reading and not even put a dent in it (898pgs). really incredible piece of work. everytime i thought i knew where it would zig, it zagged. i've added a few other bolanos on the list. a few new edits on the bandcamp: used to love me, party, telepathy love.
