amerie is.. before her time. or after. or back to the future or something. like i’ve complained about before, r&b’s current state of affairs is not as sweet as it was in the 90s, and i think amerie would fit in perfectly in that time. alternately, if she lost all her (famous) rich harris production and went all neo soul with some dilla or slum village beats, she’d still kill it imo. she’s coming with a new cd this year and benzi posted a sample.. and i’m lovin it already. and how can i not love, i totally blew up with the one thing blend. althouuugh, i will say that take control production-wise is great, but amerie don’t fit on it. sorry atari. this is amerie vs pharcyde/visioneers.

you nailed it in your write-up. i remember when i stumbled upon this on her album back in the day (well not THAT long ago!) and i was shocked she didn’t catch on in a big way. very intelligent with her song composition. the fact that you mixed it with my favourite J Dilla product just makes my taste-buds tingle.
