tonight’s TbToTW brought to you by some west coast reminiscing. i distinctly remember this and pac’s i get around getting played in succession many times on power, which was pretty awesome. plus the loop on the track is the business.

+ nerding out on star trek kinda. when i was a kid i felt like star trek was such a daunting series, what with the old 60s/70s movies plus the tv show iterations that seemed to never end (tng was on all the goddamn time on upn! and ds9! and voyager!!) and other star trek sequels that would trickle in during the 90s and 00s, i found it hard to be a fan. i was always more of a wars kind of guy. but for all my stubbornness regarding star trek, i can’t deny how awesome the spaceships were. or like, or space in general. there’s something very alluring about nothingness and the unknown. and basically lasers too.

this new one is very fun to watch. enjoyable and accessible, which i see as an amazing feat to accomplish with such a household science fiction name like star trek. kudos is well deserved for jj abrams and his usual team of producers/writers for not being super-nerd-scrupulous about the original canon of star trek work and coming up with that clever(fucking astonishing imo) plot line to ‘restart’ the whole series. of course this coming from a non-trekkie’s mouth so i don’t know if what abrams did was essentially heresy or not. but yeah, the movie is pretty sweet. and i kinda want to watch it again. if you’ve watched movies with me then you know that i’m really not the type to watch a good movie twice so soon – i like to watch it once, let its awesomeness marinate, then watch it again in 6 mos. to a year to remind me how awesome it was. (i make exceptions for movies that are so bad they’re good – i can watch movies like that every day over and over) so star trek must be doing something right with me.

+ 8tracks mix for this month on the new jack tip.

+ catch me at the comeup this month. guest dudes exile and dj day. youtube their shit, its kinda mindblowing on the mpc tip.
