brandy – sittin up in my room
mmm more brandy. this was the reason i stole my aunts waiting to exhale soundtrack. i was just watching the video and turk is hella in that video! getting down with brandy! real neat. i heard on tv that she’s coming out with a new album?? eh though, i can’t even remember anything past her first cd really. the beat is from a ghostface song, featuring carl thomas.
kanye west – good life
i’ve given the new kanye cd a bit of a listen, maybe two tracks, but i could not get down with it. i really enjoyed his first and third album, his second was okay, but this new one is way too away from the usual. plus dude is getting very megalomaniacal with his persona. i did enjoy good life, and yes, being hypocritical again by saying i dont like t-pain yet his vocals make this track more fun to remix. i’m also all about the teenage love affair beat. and alicia keys.
carl thomas – i wish
i wrote earlier about a dj jazzy jeff mixtape that i’d been enjoying a lot. one of the sicker moments was when he dropped i wish outta nowhere. how fitting, then, to put i wish on a jazzy jeff beat. that cd of his has been full of gems ive been using lately. the original carl thomas song also is one of those songs that makes me want to learn piano.
t-pain – can’t believe it
i’d be lying if i said i liked t-pain, at all. i don’t really like any of his songs or any songs he’s been on (actually wait.. good life is pretty sweet but probably because of the pyt sample) and i think the auto-tune style is really lame and overdone. however. i really dig the instrumental to the original can’t believe it. it’s really like.. ethereal and simple and dreamy. since i had the aca too i was just testing it on a few different things, and serendipitously found that it was perfect on 9th wonder. actually, that’s how most of my blends are to be honest. no weezy because i’m still on weezy overload. dude’s annoying.
also it’s *finally* come to my attention (and probably to the disdain of many ipod/itunes users) that all my mp3s have no albumart, and it looks ghetto on your ipod/itouch/iphone/wtfever. i’m sorry. however i’m trying to remedy that right now. i made a super simple generic one with a few diff colorways that you guys can go ahead and add to your own shit if you’re so inclined. i’ll be making more albumarts as the months come along. as for me though. ALL my mp3s aint got any albumart and i’ll be damned if i’m gonna start.
also also, you might have noticed there’s no more full listing of all my blends. it was annoying to update, was super unorganized and daunting to look at. if you are looking for a certain remix, use the search bar on top. it’s pretty good at it.
brandy – i wanna be down
back in the day i had a major crush on brandy. i bought her first cd and listened to it a lot in middle school. i found out my aunt had the waiting to exhale soundtrack, and i took it from her (because ‘sitting up in my room’ was on that). and i remember watching i still know what you did last summer because she was in it. a few years ago one of my friend’s friend’s friend invited us to a house party at — BRANDYS HOUSE!?!? — which was in calabasas. we totally went, and it was amazing. there were a ton of people and there was a soul food buffet that consisted of (but not limited to) fried chicken, mashed potatoes, candied yams, cornbread, and mac & cheese. it was sweet. and i did get to see her, which did fulfill a childhood dream.
estelle – american boy
better late than never with an estelle remix. i wasn’t really a big fan of this song but it’s sorta grown on me.. i realized after making this one that kanye raps entirely way too long on it. i also slowed it down to 110ish because i’m trying to find more useful things around that bpm range. i’m actually really ocd about that stuff – when i make my mixes and/or sort stuff for a set i am looking at bpm first, song selection second. it’s nerdy, yeah.
