i’m in a really bbq-y mood right now. back in the day we used to have the at-the-park birthdays with balloons and party favors and nerf footballs and beef on a stick. there would be a whole lot of rice and lumpia too, with the red sauce. though right now, i can’t think of the last time i been to one - or it was probably a real long time ago. anyway. i must do that this summer. my cousin’s havin a baby in june, which hopefully means a resurgence in park birthdays. but even if not, as long as they got a moon jump at the pad, i’m happy. i’ll never get too old for those.

also as i woke up today (hella sick, man bein sick like literally is so GAY) and was looking at the site, i think that the whole digg thing is going about it all wrong. it’s hard to get someone to vote up on things - hell i won’t even do it. i’ll have to leave it to my own discretion, and condense the remixes page totally - keep only the bangers on it, and the other stuff can be in a leftovers page or something. i know for sure though that once all the albumart is done for each remix, it’ll look better when i display them on the page. like a grid of thumbnails and shit. k i’m totally nerdin out.
indescribable feeling
here’s a mix i made august of last year but never got to putting it out. i think my reasoning was that i didn’t enjoy it at the time, volumes were jumpy on the tracks, and when i’m already doubting like that i usually just dump and never upload it. but recently i’ve had it on my ipod and it’s good stuff. dunno why i even hesitated. most of the mix mirrors a live set i was doing at a friends party. enjoy.

this mix takes it back. i’ve really been into some freestyle and electro lately (well, when i made the mix) and needed to put something together with it. plus i just wanted to hear da funk all over again, bumping hard. i myself never got into b-boying but i’m all down with poplockin and uprockin. this is the january mix, which is obviously late.. but better late than never!

this mix is more upbeat with some latin influences. i’ve always enjoyed diverse music at 120bpm that *isn’t* bumping techno/electro. the first song’s guitar really makes me want to learn how to salsa, merengue, mambo, whateva. nevermind all that ‘modern’ business. it’s good and all, but i think in the long run knowing how to cha cha will get you places.
truby trio - jaleo
hajime yoshizawa f. chris&nina - i am with you

indelible
a bit of funk and more 90s hiphop action. and that kanye track does it to me.. meanwhile the album doesn’t really do it to me. i’m convinced that kanye produces better stuff for common than he does himself. faithful is still hands down one of my favorite songs ever.
jackson five - it’s great to be here (kenny dope remix)
maze f. frankie beverly - before i let go
the detroit spinners - it’s a shame
king floyd - groove me
kanye west - champion
andre 3000 - happy valentines day

bangups deux
the original premise of bangups was that my buddy matt needed a mix to throw on at a party, so i whipped up that premade mix for him, and he said it rocked the house. good times. fast forward to a few weeks ago to my man nelsons birthday bash. last year he threw his poolside party as well, there were mad fools up in it, and i had made a playlist of tunes to go on through the night. this year however, i was asked to dj it live, honorably making it my first live set ever. (because i don’t have tables.. yeah!) i mean i’ve fucked with tables and can mix (sort of?), but i’d never actually done it.. live, and with a crowd. so yeah i was nervous and i fucked up more times than i cared to and yadda yadda. but the set was solid, people grooved, and ever since then i’ve been listening to the playlist i made for it. so here it is for your enjoyment, another partyish bangups set that runs a whoppin 90 minutes. and i already had cut down a crapload of songs i wanted to put on it too. not gonna put a tracklist yet because i want to blow yall minds, but it runs at around 130bpm and has all sorts of 80s/booty bass/electro/bmore/nurave(is that the real term? can we come up with a better term? what about ’shit that sounds like justice’)/etcetc.
youre gonna like the way it sounds. i guarantee it.
