back in full effect

hawaii is now conquered. well, by conquered i mean i’ve conquered it similarly to other u.s. states i’ve conquered, and by conquered i mean i’ve driven it. this is something my family loves to do-roadtrip. we’ve done across country, through tornado alley, vancouver, chitown, yellowstone, et al. all i’m really missing is some real east coast driving action. but back to the HI.. since it was like six of us, we had to rent a minivan, and i delegated myself as chauffeur. i think the best way to soak in an unfamiliar locale is to drive through it, and that’s what i pretty much did all week. hawaii is really beautiful.

we: hiked, beached, had poke, beached, tried to surf(failed), had loco mocos, beached, went into lava tubes, did some touristy waikiki stuff, beached, hiked some more, ate at curry house, ate at rainbows, ate at shabu shabu, ate at alan wongs, ate at zippys, went to a steel pulse concert, hit up in4mation/alohaarmy/kickshi, ate some more, beached, drove to north shore for matsumotos shaved ice, then had waiolas and realized that waiolas is way f’n better, saw some trannies at matsumoto lolol, beached, chilled with local dudes and dudettes, learned some pidgin!, BEACHED, kicked my foot on some reef and scratched it nasty style, went swap meet, and beached. and all (well not all, but mostly all) thoroughly documented with my camera. i’m slowly sorting/uploading pics to my flickr, so you can keep posted on that.

hawaii’s weather is amazing. clouds move so damn fast and they’re so low to the earth (as i noticed when i got back, i looked up into the l.a. sky and was like ‘wtf why are the clouds so high’), and the sky’s so blue and not hazy and there’s always a nice breeze. when we landed in l.a. on friday morning it was all muggy looking and i was definitely not havin it. esp since i didnt sleep on the flight and it was redeye status.. i wanted to shoot myself. bah.

hawaii food is pretty amazing as well. whoever came up with adding mac salad to everything, i wanna hug em. i’m gonna hit up costco soon and see if they got a big vat of mac salad i can cop, because it compliments.. everything? my friend from school, kris, is originally from hawaii so we stayed at his house, and his mom cooks like FIERCE. like, i’m totally envious now because i used to think my mom and dad are pretty awesome at cooking, but she totally iron chef’d them the fuck out of the picture. i’m not sure what it is (could be the garlic and hawaiian salt) but every time she cooked for us i was in heaven. i’m not sure the exact names of the dishes but i was down. the last meal she made us was some traditional style luau stuff with poi and all that goodness.. i think poi is really.. .. unique? interesting? i’m reaching for adjectives here. it’s good I GUESS. but i cannot stomach too much of it. however the pork inside taro leaves was bomb diggity, because it tasted very similar to carne asada - and i was feening some mexican food while i was in hawaii (something hawaii lacks!)

driving in hawaii.. was a good experience, but also like a game of restraint. because no one drives fast and everyone drives like an idiot. sorry hawaii, thats my only gripe. yall are dumb at driving. although driving in a minivan doesn’t really inspire me to be driving hella fast, but still. it got frustrating at times. OH YEAH what’s up with the sleeper police cars/trucks/vans?? its like ‘check me out im a pathfinder but im still gonna pull your ass over’. though for all the dumb drivers out there i only saw two accidents my whole time there, and one of em was pretty much a given because it was like a street race. atleast yall dont drive l.a. stupid.

my mixtape is at the in4mation store now, so i’ve been told. i was only able to make twelve before i left so it’s limited quantity, but i’ll be printing up some more asap. once i do have a steady ‘cache’ of them i’ll hit yall up if yall want any.. just drop an email and that would be sorta like a preorder i guess? but shouts to that dude justin at in4mation for hooking it up with the whole dealy. you a boss, for sure.

i got hella chocolates to give out, hahaha. i even brought back some portuguese sausage for my fam because i called them up and told them about it. ‘omg its like longanisa except your burps wont stink like shit after!’ - its totally perfect.

k the end of my hawaii stuff, i think. the come up last saturday was pretty chill, and i mean that only in the figurative sense, because seriously it was hot as fuck in that spot. so hot it froze dude mitch’s laptop right in his set. what a fucking burn! if any of you were there, i hope you went outside for a bit to cool off. one of the djs, paul, brought a mini fan and i was huggin it all night. (no homo?)
